'THIS IS US' was a sermon and 'experience' series looking at the culture of our family of churches - Relational Mission. The series was based on a book written by Mike Betts (the senior leader of Relational Mission) and the first 7 weeks cover the material in the book. Weeks 8 and 9 were 'experience' weeks during which we visited another church and attended a festival camping weekend! Redeemer is part of this family of churches and carries the same core culture. Whilst the Redeemer church 'family' may have distinct expressions and flavours, we are rooted in our larger family of Relational Mission and carry the same DNA. Week 8 and 9 of the series were 'experiences' of other settings (churches/festivals) that will be 'immersions' into our culture. THIS IS US. Scroll Down for more.

A REAL FAMILY

Being saved cannot be separated from being part of the the church - God's family which is made up of brothers and sisters who are seeking each other's good and the glory if their Father - it is a purposeful family. This week we look at how we work out being God's family on mission.

RAISING SONS & DAUGHTERS

The Bible compares children to arrows - they need to be carefully and purposefully made. As God's family is purposeful and has a mission, raising sons and daughters to continue that mission beyond our generation is essential! This week we look at what that is important and how that is outworked as a family. not a business.

We are all witnesses to the things we have seen and the things we have heard. As we go about our lives we share with those around us the events and experiences that have shaped us and made us the people we are today. As Christians we are witnesses of the difference that Jesus has made in our lives. This week of the series will focus on being a faithful witness.

STARTING NEW FAMILIES

It is natural for biological families to grow. It is the same with God's family, His church. As people start following Jesus it is essential that new families are started. This week we celebrated new life on our Baptism Sunday.

CHURCH FOR A BROKEN WORLD

God always intended His church to be outward looking, focusing on those who have been marginalised and broken by society. We live in a City and indeed a world that has a lot of brokeness in it. God wants to use His people to reach out and to make a difference in the lives of those who are hurting the most. This week will focus on the church's mandate to be a light to the broken. WE HAVE A COMPASS BUT NO MAP

As a church we know the direction we are heading in but we are walking in that direction by faith, trusting that God is leading each of our steps. We make plans and follow through on them but we don't have a map that says "do this, and then that, and then you'll have reached your destination". This week will focus on what it means to have a compass.

'ROAD TRIP' EXAMPLE EXPERIENCE

This week we NOT be having a service in Colchester, instead will be taking a road trip to The City Church in Canterbury. Redeemer was planted (started) by a couple sent from The City Church - Hugh and Claire. Hugh was on the leadership team of The City Church for seven years before moving to plant Redeemer. The City Church have remained our primary supporting church and have sent 2 other couples to help start Redeemer. We will be joining them for their GLOBAL SUNDAY - a service where they celebrate being a 'SENDING CHURCH'. We are a key part of that! It will also be a chance to get an idea of where we are heading as a church.

'T17 IMMERSION' EXPERIENCE

This week will also NOT be having a service in Colchester, instead we will be having a CAMPING FESTIVAL WEEKEND for our TOGETHER '17 event. T17 is a group of churches from Suffolk and the surrounding areas who are part of our movement of churches (Relational Mission). This will a fun, family orientated weekend and will give you a bigger picture of what Relational Mission is. Some of the senior leaders within Relational Mission will also be speaking and there will be a great children's programme. We'd love EVERYONE WHO IS PART OF REDEEMER to join us, even just for a day.
